The end of the work the never ending work: teleworking in the Information Technology sector in Brazil

Workers in the Information Technology (IT) sector in Brazil are prime category for understanding the current job settings in which new ways to organize, manage and perform the work are placed. Flexible times, work by project, responsibility for their employability, permanent collection for innovation, intensive work, are some of the aspects that professionals face in their daily work. We will present results of qualitative research ongoing conducted with the workers of the state's information technology sector in São Paulo, Brazil. The primary objective of the research is to understand the relationship between life and work of professionals, understanding that the production and preparation of informational technologies adopt different organizational strategies and management of the work, including the possibility of teleworking. We seek to identify the scope of work in home office on the lives of workers (interference or not on family relationships, friendships, leisure time, etc.). Through key informant and the application of the method of ball snow we interviewed 47 IT employees of companies located in São Paulo (Brazil), during the period 2014-2016. The interviews used semi structured questionnaire and the respondents worked in small, medium and large technology companies. Are creating workers or management of information technologies that develop software, applications, computer games, create and manage web pages, systems analysts, project managers, IT consultants, experts in databases, among others. The data indicate that the variety of contractual relationships, workplaces, types of activities performed, as well as the diversity of experiences in teleworking is one of the features work in the IT sector in Brazil. We identify with the research a variety of work arrangements at home, with the execution of the work in full or part-time, which opposed the positive character of theses around the possibilities of freedom and autonomy in teleworking, professionals face the fear of loneliness , invisibility and loss of promotion in their careers. What makes these professionals refuse, when possible, the full time teleworking and give preference to the realization of remote work for one or two days. The data also point to the individual strategies of resistance evaluated as ways of coping endless work and has crossed the spheres of life of workers.
